Here are a few specifics for individual classes:
English: Next week students will take the chapters 4-6 quiz for The Watsons Go to Birmingham and continue working on their Character Journal assignment. We will read chapters 7-8 together in class. Additionally, students will work on practicing their justification skills for evidence-based writing. After this practice, students will put all the skills of a body paragraph together and draft their own.
As a friendly reminder, students need to log 500 minutes in Beanstack by October 16 to earn full credit on their Q1 Reading Minutes assignment. There are absolutely no extensions on this assignment due to the end of the grading period. Please communicate with your child about their progress on this requirement.
Math: We will review Chapter 2 and the test will be on Wednesday for B-day students and Thursday for A-day. This chapter focused on multi-digit multiplication and finding the area of shapes. If students have missing assignments or did not complete the Delta Math, they can still get things done to improve their grades. Please let me know if students need help after school.
Social Studies: Next week, we will be working on our Island Project, where students will get to use what they have learned about land and water features to create their own island! There are examples and project information available on Canvas for students to look at as they work.
Students will have time during each class period to work on their projects, but they may also want to work on them at home if they need a little extra time. The projects are due:
• A-Day: October 13
• B-Day: October 14
• A-Day: October 13
• B-Day: October 14
Students will also have a vocabulary quiz next week:
• A-Day: October 8
• B-Day: October 9
• A-Day: October 8
• B-Day: October 9
If you have a few minutes, helping your student review the vocabulary terms and our notes on Earth’s uneven surfaces would be tremendously helpful. A little practice at home can make a big difference in helping them feel confident going into the quiz!
Thank you for your continued support! I’m excited to see the creative islands the students come up with!
Mrs. Palmer, gpalmer@kimberly.edu
Science: The Pokemon Properties Project is due October 8th, no exceptions. We are moving on to Lesson 5: Potential and Kinetic Energy. Starting next week, any students with missing assignments in Science will be asked to work on those instead of participating in the lab. If you have any questions, please reach out.
PACK: This next week we will be discussing critical thinking and how to solve problems on our own. Students will be practicing removing emotion and using logic to view problems and information so they can process the information clearly and respond as such. Part of this will be a reminder to students to take a more proactive role in their education by reminding them they need to be reaching out to teachers about grades, missing work, or questions and they should be CCing their parents in those emails. Please reach out with questions or concerns.
Brad, bcarlson@kimberly.edu
STEM: Students will be focusing on the wheel and axle, our first simple machine. On October 2nd, 5th, 8th and 12th, students will use LEGOs to build and apply what they have learned. Students who are absent on either of these days will need to stay after school to make up the assignment.
Warmly,
The 6th Grade Team

Mrs. Williams, awilliams@kimberly.edu
Mrs. Landers, clanders@kimberly.edu
• A-Day: 13 de octubre
• B-Day: 14 de octubre
• B-Day: 14 de octubre
• A-Day: 8 de octubre
• B-Day: 9 de octubre
• B-Day: 9 de octubre
Mrs. Palmer, gpalmer@kimberly.edu
Ms. Dahlberg, qdahlberg@kimberly.edu
Brad, bcarlson@kimberly.edu
