Dear Families,
We hope you had a wonderful and restful Spring Break. School resumes on March 30th, and we’re excited to jump back into learning with a strong finish to the year—there are about 8 great weeks of learning ahead! No school Friday, April 17th (Teacher Professional Development Day).
Please continue to encourage your student to stay on top of their grades and keep up with assignments. Also, make sure students are coming to school prepared each day with basic supplies, especially pencils. A reminder to keep saving shoe boxes for an upcoming Social Studies project—we appreciate your help with this!
Here are a few specifics:
English: Students will read chapter 10 in The Lightning Thief. We will discuss main ideas and important themes that are being established. We will also learn how to write effective cause and effect body paragraphs. Additionally, students will work to complete their Unit 4 Vocabulary Packets.

Math: In math, we will learn to write expressions for word problems using variables. We'll also begin Chapter 8 by looking at statistical questions and measures of central tendency. Students who need to take the Chapter 7 test will need to schedule an after-school time with me to get it done.

Social Studies: When we return from spring break, we will begin a short unit on South America. This week, students will be working on maps and learning the countries and their capitals. Please hold on to any shoeboxes you may have—I will be sharing more details soon about how we will be using them for an upcoming project. Thank you in advance for your support!

Science: We are starting Unit 4 on Waves, Sound, and Light. Reminder that late assignments can only receive half credit after 15 days.

PACK: This week we are going to re-cap after break expectations again. This is a good reminder for clothing policy, plagiarism, computer/cell phone violations, and a few other rules that everyone starts to become complacent with as the year goes on. We will also do some impromptu speeches where the students get a topic and then have a short time to research it and quickly speak about the topic.

STEM: In STEM this week, we will focus on finishing our Mini Geometry Unit. The number of class periods we spend on this will depend on how students are progressing and their level of understanding. On Monday and Tuesday, students will work on a “Designing a Cereal Box” activity. Unit 3 Vocabulary (D–Z) quizzes can still be retaken before or after school. Please reach out with any questions.

Queridas familias,
Esperamos que hayan tenido un Spring Break muy bueno y relajante. Las clases regresan el 30 de marzo y estamos emocionados de volver con todo para cerrar el año fuerte—¡tenemos como 8 semanas increíbles de aprendizaje por delante! No habrá clases el viernes 17 de abril (día de desarrollo profesional para maestros).
Por favor sigan animando a sus estudiantes a mantenerse al día con sus calificaciones y tareas. También asegúrense de que lleguen preparados todos los días con útiles básicos, especialmente lápices. Y no olviden seguir guardando cajas de zapatos para un proyecto de Social Studies—¡gracias por su ayuda!
Aquí van algunos detalles:
English: Los estudiantes leerán el capítulo 10 de The Lightning Thief. Vamos a hablar sobre ideas principales y temas importantes. También aprenderán a escribir buenos párrafos de causa y efecto. Además, trabajarán en completar su paquete de vocabulario de la Unidad 4.
