6th Grade Weekly Update, October 19th – 23rd

Dear Families,

Our Parent Teacher Conference Open House will be Thursday, October 29th, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Since students have several teachers, we ask that families plan to spend about 3 - 5 minutes with each teacher and prioritize visiting the classes where you have questions or concerns. Thank you for helping us make sure all families have an opportunity to connect with their students’ teachers. We look forward to seeing you!

Important Dates

  • October 29: Parent Teacher Conferences
  • October 30: No School
  • November 11: Veterans Assembly at KHS
  • November 23 – 27: Fall Break

Warmly,

The KMS 6th Grade Team

Here are a few specifics for individual classes:

English: We will continue reading and discussing The Watsons Go to Birmingham. Students will also practice close reading strategies by using annotation symbols to analyze a poem, uncover deeper meaning, and explore the poet’s use of literary devices. Finally, students will wrap up our Evidence-Based Writing Unit by practicing how to write an effective conclusion paragraph.

Mrs. Williams, awilliams@kimberly.edu

Math: We will continue to explore the relationship between fractions, decimals and percents. If students have missing or unfinished assignments, there is still time to get them done. Schedule a time to meet with me after school if you need help!

Mrs. Landers, clanders@kimberly.edu

Social Studies: Next week, we will be finishing our notes on weather and climate. Any help reviewing these concepts at home would be greatly appreciated! We will also be completing activities and assignments to help reinforce students’ understanding of the material. Toward the end of the week, we will begin a new project focused on climate zones.

Thank you for your continued support!

Mrs. Palmer, gpalmer@kimberly.edu

Science: In Science, we are talking about temperature and will have a lab on insulation. Our next open notes test will be the 26th and 27th. We have another big point project coming up in November. Please remind your student they need to turn work in to receive credit.

Ms. Dahlberg, qdahlberg@kimberly.edu

PACK: This next week we will be discussing Internet Safety. Some of the topics will be giving out personal information, predator tactics, scams, and other threats on the internet. Please reach out with any questions.

STEM: We will finish up our LEGO Gear Build and then move into levers. Students will learn how to identify and classify different types of levers, as well as discuss hydraulics and pneumatics. Our Unit 2 Vocabulary Quiz will be on October 23rd and 26th. Students should study the vocabulary words found on our Canvas page under Vocabulary.

Queridas familias:
