Dear Families,
As the weather gets colder, please remind your student to dress warmly for school. Students are required to go outside during lunch, and they must wait outside before school until 7:55 a.m., so coats and other cold-weather gear are important!
Important Dates
- November 11: Veterans Assembly at KHS
- November 23 – 27: Fall Break
Warmly,
The KMS 6th Grade Team
Here are a few specifics for individual classes:
English: Students will finish The Watsons Go to Birmingham this week. We will work to complete the rough draft of our Response to Literature essay. Throughout this process, I will check in with students and provide feedback to improve their writing. Encourage students to utilize this class time wisely! Focused and attentive work will be beneficial to their overall grade on this essay.
Mrs. Williams, awilliams@kimberly.edu
Math: This week we will describe motion on a number line using integers. You will learn how addition can help you predict the starting or ending point of a series of moves. Then you will relate this movement to finding distance. If students have missing assignments, they need to get them completed. Come see me if you need help!
Mrs. Landers, clanders@kimberly.edu
Social Studies: Next week will be a busy one in social studies! We will have a quiz on climates on November 3 for A-day students and November 4 for B-day students. Feel free to help your students review the different climate types at home.
The climate project is due November 5 for A-day students and November 6 for B-day students. Toward the end of the week, we will also begin a new topic: culture.
Please check PowerSchool for updated grades and encourage your students to take advantage of any opportunities to improve their grades. Thank you for your support!
Mrs. Palmer, gpalmer@kimberly.edu
Science: We are starting Unit 2: Chemical Reactions. Lesson 1 covers Atoms and we will build atomic models using candy. Our next big project is the Periodic Table Yearbook. This will be a similar page to our Pokemon project. The rubric will be available in Canvas and it will be worth 60 points. This will significantly impact grades, so please ensure your student is able to turn it in before the deadline.
Ms. Dahlberg, qdahlberg@kimberly.edu
PACK: We watched Social Dilemma on Netflix and wrote about what we learned. I would encourage you to talk to your students about what they learned or even watch this yourselves. This material can be heavy, so this next week we will watch Mitchells v. Machines and while it is a farfetched cartoon, it reinforces what the students saw on Social Dilemma. Please reach out with questions or concerns.
Brad, bcarlson@kimberly.edu
STEM: This week, students will continue working with their partners on their Empathy-Driven Design Project. Prototypes are due November 5th for A-Day and November 6th for B-Day. I will be gone on November 6th for State Swim, but this will not change the project deadline. Students will also complete a graded self-assessment reflecting on how well they worked as a team member and contributed to the project.
On November 17th and 18th, students will take their Semester Comprehensive Exam. Study guides were handed out and reviewed in class on October 27th and 28th, and a digital copy is available on Canvas. There will be no retakes for this exam, so please make sure your student is studying a couple of nights each week to prepare.

Actualización semanal de 6.º grado, 2–6 de noviembre
Estimadas familias:
Inglés: Esta semana, los estudiantes terminarán de leer The Watsons Go to Birmingham.
Mrs. Williams, awilliams@kimberly.edu
Mrs. Landers, clanders@kimberly.edu
Mrs. Palmer, gpalmer@kimberly.edu
Ms. Dahlberg, qdahlberg@kimberly.edu
Brad, bcarlson@kimberly.edu
