Dear Families,
Here are a few specifics:
As we head into our final week of school, we want to take a moment to thank you for your support throughout the year. It has been wonderful watching our students grow academically, socially, and personally during their 6th grade year. We are proud of all they have accomplished and wish them the very best as they head into summer and prepare for 7th grade.
With only 1 week of school left, it can be easy for students to become complacent. Please continue to encourage your student to stay focused and finish strong; the learning doesn’t stop! Staying on top of grades, assignments, and effort is important as we wrap up the year. Also, please make sure all library books are returned asap, there are a lot of books still in circulation.
If your family has plans to leave town early, please make sure your student completes all required work ahead of time. Assignments will not be exempt, and missing work may result in zeros.
We have a couple of fun events coming up:
On May 21st, students will participate in the Grad Walk, receive yearbooks, enjoy an outside sack lunch, and then Sources of Strength will host the annual SOS Carnival (not open to the public). Students can play games to earn Bulldog Bucks, which can be used to purchase treats or play additional games. Treats will also be available for $1. The dunk tank is always a favorite, $1 for 3 balls to try and dunk one of our teachers! Please look for a follow-up email about the carnival next week.
On May 22nd, all students will attend our last day of school celebration at Nat-Soo-Pah. The cost is $5.00 cash, required for all students attending. We ask that students bring either one $5 bill or five $1 bills for admission. If this presents a financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Flameling in the KMS office. Students will need to bring a lunch from home or sign up for a school lunch. Please also remember to send a towel, sunscreen, and appropriate swimwear. If students would like to purchase snacks or food at Nat-Soo-Pah, please send extra money.

English: Students will be watching the film adaptation of The Lightning Thief and wrapping up their Creative Writing Projects. The deadline for submitting their final project is Wednesday, May 20. I will not accept any work beyond that date. Wednesday is also the final day I will be counting reading minutes logged in Beanstack.

Math: In math, we will finish up our board game and then play each other's games. Several students have missing assignments that can still be completed. Please see me if you need help getting things done.

Social Studies: Canadian maps will be due on Tuesday for A-Day classes and Wednesday for B-Day classes. There will be no late work accepted after Wednesday, May 20. Starting Monday, May 18, students may pick up their shoebox projects. Please encourage students to take them home by Wednesday. Any projects that have not been picked up by then will be thrown away.

Science: In Science, we will be briefly covering Plant and Animal Cells as an introduction to 7th grade science. Wednesday, we will take a workday to finish up any last minute missing work.

PACK: In PACK we will be having workdays so students can complete those last few assignments or work on anything they need to get their grades up. Please encourage your student to use this time wisely if their grades are not where they should be.

STEM: In STEM, this last week will be a busy one! Students will submit their final project, their Greeting Card, complete their Unit 4 Vocabulary Quiz, take an open-note circuit quiz, and submit their Quarter 4 Journal Assignment. Please note that Vocabulary Quiz retakes will only be available on May 19th and 20th, before or after school.

Aquí van algunos detalles importantes:
Mientras entramos en nuestra última semana de clases, queremos tomar un momento para agradecerles por todo su apoyo durante el año. Ha sido increíble ver cuánto crecieron nuestros estudiantes académica, social y personalmente durante 6º grado. Estamos muy orgullosos de todo lo que lograron y les deseamos lo mejor mientras se preparan para el verano y para 7º grado.
Con solo 1 semana de escuela restante, es fácil que los estudiantes se relajen un poco. Por favor sigan animando a sus estudiantes a mantenerse enfocados y terminar fuerte—¡el aprendizaje no se detiene! Mantenerse al día con calificaciones, tareas y esfuerzo sigue siendo importante mientras cerramos el año. También, por favor asegúrense de regresar los libros de la biblioteca lo antes posible; todavía hay muchos libros sin entregar.
Si su familia tiene planes de salir de la ciudad antes de tiempo, por favor asegúrense de que su estudiante complete todo el trabajo requerido antes de irse. Las tareas no serán exentas y el trabajo faltante puede convertirse en ceros.
