Dear Families,
We have a few upcoming events and reminders as we move through the spring months!
Hobby Day is May 8th—some activities require money and permission slips, so please check in with your student.
Our School Talent Show is May 7th. Auditions will take place after school on April 23rd and 24th for students who signed up, at their scheduled times.
ISAT testing for Math and English will take place during the last two weeks of April. These tests are mandatory, so please plan for your student to be at school. If absent, they will be pulled from other classes to make them up.
As the weather warms up, please review dress code expectations. Shorts must be an appropriate length (not riding up or fully covered by tops), stomachs must be covered, and tops must have straps. Students not in dress code may be asked to call home for a change of clothes.
Here are a few specifics:
English:
Students will be taking the English ISAT next week. Please send students with headphones next week for the listening portion of the exam. Additionally, please review the test taking tips handout that was sent home with them. If they didn’t bring the packet home, it is also linked on Canvas. Ensure students are getting a full night of sleep (no technology at bedtime!) and have a healthy breakfast. Well rested and sustained minds perform better every time! Students have worked hard all year. I am confident in their abilities and can’t wait to see how well they do.

Math: We will be reviewing what we have learned this year to prepare for our math ISAT tests the following week. Any students who need to take or retake a test need to schedule a time with me for after school.

Social Studies: We will be starting a short unit on Central America in the coming days. Students will be working with maps and reading a few articles to build their understanding of the region. As part of this unit, we will also explore the importance of the Panama Canal and its role in global trade.Thank you for your continued support. Science: This week is the end of Unit 4. We will have an open note test on Monday and Tuesday. I will be gone Thursday, April 23rd, and Friday, April 24th. There will be a substitute teacher covering both of those days. While I am gone, the students will be working on a full year review packet. This packet will count as a Project grade, and it will be worth 100 points.

PACK: This week we will be doing our Demonstration Speeches. It should be fun seeing what the kids teach the class. By all means have them demonstrate to you and make sure they can speak/teach for a minimum of 2 minutes.

STEM: Students will complete their group project, “Kimberly Redesign,” on Monday and Tuesday. If a student missed two or more days of the project, they will be assigned an alternative independent version to complete. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will begin our final unit of the year by diving into electricity. Looking ahead to May, our final project will be individual and due on May 13th/14th, and students will also have a quiz on May 18th/19th. Please reach out if you have any questions!

Queridas familias,
Tenemos algunos recordatorios y eventos importantes mientras seguimos avanzando en la primavera.
Hobby Day es el 8 de mayo—algunas actividades requieren dinero y permisos, así que por favor revisen con su estudiante.
Nuestro Talent Show es el 7 de mayo. Las audiciones serán después de clases el 23 y 24 de abril para los estudiantes que se inscribieron, en los horarios que eligieron.
Las pruebas ISAT de Matemáticas e Inglés serán durante las últimas dos semanas de abril. Estas pruebas son obligatorias, así que por favor asegúrense de que los estudiantes estén presentes. Si faltan, tendremos que sacarlos de otras clases para recuperarlas.
Con el clima más cálido, por favor revisen el dress code. Los shorts deben tener un largo apropiado (no subirse al caminar ni quedar completamente cubiertos por la ropa de arriba), el abdomen debe estar cubierto y las camisetas deben tener tirantes. Si no cumplen con el dress code, se les puede pedir que llamen a casa para cambiarse.

Los estudiantes tomarán el ISAT de Inglés la próxima semana. Por favor envíen a los estudiantes con audífonos para la parte de listening. También revisen la hoja de tips para el examen que se envió a casa (también está en Canvas). Asegúrense de que duerman bien y desayunen saludable—cuando están descansados, ¡les va mejor! Han trabajado mucho este año y estoy segura de que lo harán muy bien.

Estaremos repasando lo aprendido este año para prepararnos para el ISAT de matemáticas la siguiente semana. Los estudiantes que necesiten tomar o repetir un examen deben programar un tiempo conmigo después de clases.

Comenzaremos una unidad corta sobre Centroamérica. Los estudiantes trabajarán con mapas y leerán artículos para entender mejor la región. El miércoles y jueves comenzaremos nuestra última unidad del año sobre electricidad.
