ABOUT THE BOARD
The Kimberly School District Board of Education is the policy-making body of the School District. Its powers and duties are set by state law. The Kimberly School Board is comprised of five Trustees, elected to staggered four-year terms by district residents. Board members volunteer their time and service on a regular basis to make decisions in the best interest of our schools and students. The board sets district policies and budgets, approves educational programs, makes decisions about curriculum and textbook adoptions, and assures adherence to the district's Strategic Direction. Elections are held in November of odd-numbered years. The Board acts as a court of appeal for staff members, students and the public on issues involving board policy or implementation of that policy.
School board meetings are held for the purpose of setting or amending district policies; acting on recommendations by the Administration on matters ranging from personnel to maintenance of facilities; adopting a budget; and authorizing the spending of budgeted funds.
The agenda for each meeting is posted on the district website on the Monday prior to the meeting. Reminders are posted via social media. Meetings are held at Kimberly School District Board Room (Round Building) - 141 Center Street West, Kimberly, ID 83341. The Board of Trustees meets regularly on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise posted. Special meetings, workshops and/or forums are scheduled and posted as needed.
If you cannot attend a regular meeting in person, as a courtesy, meetings are streamed live on Zoom and the link is posted on the header of the board meeting agenda for that meeting. Regular meeting audio is recorded and can be requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
ADDRESSING THE BOARD
The Board of Trustees works for the students, parents, and stakeholders of the district, and community input is always welcome. Suggestions can help the board meet the challenge of continuous improvement. Citizens may speak during the hearing of visitors which is set on the monthly meeting agenda. This is the time to make your view known about a specific item being discussed prior to action being taken by the board. The Clerk of the Board maintains a sign-up sheet just prior to the start of the meeting at the entrance. Those with written testimony or handouts to share are asked to supply six copies to the clerk prior to the meeting. Speakers are limited to three minutes. Additional comments may be sent via email to email@example.com. Groups representing a consistent viewpoint are strongly encouraged to select one spokesperson to address the board. Policy 1441
BOARD RESPONSE TO ISSUES
Many issues require review and deliberation by the board prior to decisions being made. Immediate answers usually cannot be rendered. During a meeting, the board will listen to citizens and may ask or answer questions, but will not make a decision without fully reviewing all available facts on the matter.
Typical of any large organization, Kimberly School District faces numerous routine tasks at each at the meeting. The Consent Agenda allows for a single vote resolution for matters such as purchases, student data, travel approvals and other routine items.
EXECUTIVE SESSIONS, WORKSHOPS & OTHER MEETINGS
The public is invited to attend all open meetings, workshops, and community forums of the Board of Trustees. Occasionally, closed Executive Sessions may be held to consider such items as employment, labor negotiations, real estate purchases, student discipline, or complaints against staff. Community stakeholders are notified of workshops and other public meetings via paper postings, the district website, and social media.
The Kimberly School District Board of Education encourages you to become involved in education. The School District offers many opportunities for community members to participate. You are invited to attend Board of Education meetings, and you also may get involved earlier in the decision-making process by participating in one of the many advisory committees that serve the schools.
