Kimberly High School’s track team is looking to continue its tradition of success. The track team finished third at state last year and is looking to improve this season. On the girls’ side, the Lady Dawgs look great. They placed third at the Boise Relays, competing against 30 teams. On the boys' side they placed 13th out of 29 teams.

Jackson May, senior runner, explained, “The boys are doing exceptionally well and have big plans for the later part of the season.”

The varsity boys have seven meets left in their season before state. They have competed in five so far, doing exceptionally well in all of them. Compared to our district, the boys are looking ahead of the competition. From our throwers to our sprinters, each event is improving every day at practice to get better for the next meet.

Mathew Thurenagle, the top discus thrower in the district, said, “My favorite memory of track was state last year because we would play Lego Star Wars until midnight with the seniors.”

Track creates many memories because of the constant traveling and the ability to be on a team with many of your friends. There are many events in track that create a variety of possibilities for friends to be on the same team together. The majority of the athletes have personal goals they are focused on, but get the enjoyment of celebrating their success with their friends is the big goal.

Senior Kristen Long, said, “It’s been really good. I’m excited to see where it goes and to see everyone improve.”

This year the girls and boys are eyeing a season of success. They have areas to improve, but they have plenty of meets to be able to achieve their goals. All of the track athletes are preparing to finish the season strong and perform well at districts.
