Second Grade Critical Areas

  1. Students will be able to understand skip counting by 2’s, 5’s 10’s and 100’s and manipulate and compare numbers up to 1,000.
  2. Student will be able to smoothly add and subtract numbers within 100. Using their understanding of place-value and operations, they will be able to develop methods to solve problems within 1,000. Students will be able to select strategies that they can explain to solve problems.
  3. Students will measure using a variety of standard tools ( including rulers, yard sticks, and tape measures) and non-standard tools ( including paper clips, fingers, arm spans, etc.), as well focus on solving problems with time and money.
  4. Students will build, draw, and analyze 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, in addition to becoming familiar with fractions through partitioning shapes.
