Overview

The Information Technology Academy infuses current technology education with academic subjects, so that graduates will be prepared to enter the job market and/or go on to post-secondary studies in the field of technology upon graduation from the program. Students will be provided with an understanding of web design, business applications and networking concepts. Additionally, students will be exposed to the work environments of technology companies through work shadowing experiences, field trips to business locations, and part-time employment.

Kimberly's Information Technology program consists of an introduction level class and two program strands including associated internship and portfolio development activities.

Information Technology Classes

Introduction to Information Technology classes focus on computer technology: basic theory of computer operation, components of a PC, electronics and PC troubleshooting, web authoring, graphics, and basic video skills. The class is "hands on" with lab exercises reinforcing the basic principals of technology.

The Networking Technologies strand is centered on the Cisco Networking Academy. The academy consists of four semesters which are eligible for college credit through CSI. Professional technical students can complete computer hardware and troubleshooting certification (A+) and/or networking certifications (Novell's CNA, Microsoft's MCP, Cisco's CCNA.) Classes in Linux/UNIX administration are also available. Students wishing to take advantage of the advanced classes are only required to take the first semester of the Cisco Academy. Many of the advanced courses are also eligible for college credit.

The Digital Media strand includes digital video, 2D and 3D animation, web design, music creation and re mixing, and AutoCAD. A student's first semester is instructor guided and covers digital video shooting, capture, editing, and publishing along with multimedia integration. From there students can launch into a more focused program centering on programs like Sony Acid Pro, Autodesk's Maya and 3D Max, Adobe's CS3 Web Essentials, Avid's Xpress Pro, and Autodesk's AutoCAD. Professional grade equipment is provided to allow the student similar experiences that would be found in the professional work environment.
