Industry Certification OpportunitiesKimberly's Information Technology (IT) classes combine academic rigor with hands-on lab experience. Whenever possible, classes place a strong emphasis on industry certification. Professional technical students work on computer hardware and troubleshooting certification (A+), networking certification (Novell's CNA, Microsoft's MCP, Cisco's CCNA), digital video editing, 3D animation, web/database design (CIW, I-Net+), and Oracle courses. Please see the Course Catalog for updated descriptions of the classes leading up to industry certification. What about the certifications exams themselves? The industry certification exams must be taken at an authorized testing center; the nearest is at the College of Southern Idaho. Each exam costs about $100-$150, but exam 'scholarships' and financial assistance are available. In some of the programs, if a student maintains sufficiently high grades throughout the course, they will recive a voucher for a 50% discount, or for the entire price of the exam. The cost for the test, duration of the certification, and employment/salary benefits associated with each certification are different. These details are available for each course in the Course Catalog. Although students are strongly encouraged to take the industry examinations, a student may opt not to take the industry certification exam associated with a course. An in-house final exam will be provided instead.
