Accelerated ReaderAccelerated Reader - You are able to see your child's Accelerated Reader and STAR record from your home computer or anywhere you can get on the Internet. You can reach this page by going to our school district's home page. Go to the bottom of the red column at the left and click on Renaissance Place Home Connect. This will take you to the AR page. Login using the same login and password your child uses at school. Here you can see their average percent correct, how many points they have earned, and their average reading level. You can also see which certification level they are working on and their score on their last quiz. “View my bookshelf” lets you see all the quizzes they have taken this year. If you click on “AR Bookfinder” you can see which books have quizzes so you can check for quizzes for books you have at home. You can also do a search for books in a specific reading range so you could print out a list before you went to the library or the book store. If we don't already have the quiz, please tell your child to ask Mrs. Owings to order it and we can get it immediately.Back at the very, very top of the Home Connect page it says email setup. You can enter up to six different email addresses and those people will receive an email every time your child takes a quiz letting them know how well he scored. Before your child comes home each day you can know if he took any AR quizzes and what his scores were! The Accelerated Reader Program is a major part of our reading program. Students progress is charted on our Accelerated Reading "Oh, The Places We'll Go When We Read" wall. All students set an semi- annual goal of how many points they should reach by the end of December based on their own reading ability. When they earn 10% of that goal, their name is written on a die cut shape and placed on the wall. For every 25%, their figure is moved to the next section. In January they take the STAR test again, they get a new reading range and a new goal, and start over reaching this goal by the first part of May. We will hold Reading Parties in December and May as a reward for all the reading the students have done. We have many activities for those students who have reached their goal. These include a cake walk, a fishing pond, petting zoo, face painting, and races. The fairs are planned and put on by the high school advanced health classes and ag classes. Students also work towards different certification levels. (see chart below.) For the Independent Level they need to read three books by themselves and accumulate 10 points. Super Readers need to read three books worth one point each and accumulate 15 points. They continue through three other levels until they reach the Classic Readers who read 3 books in the 6th grade or above reading level that are worth 7 or more points each. The final level is the Honors Reader where they accumulate an additional 100 points by reading and testing on books from a specific list. Stages of CertificationIndependent Reader
