District Update | Kimberly

UPDATE

Dear Parents and Patrons of Kimberly School District,

We just completed the first quarter of school and it appears the seasons have changed. The time change has been very welcome as students are now arriving to school in the light of day. Thank you to those that have obeyed school zones, stopped at crosswalks, observed bus stop arms, and put away their cellular device and focused on driving.

As fall transitions into winter the chance of snow and adverse weather increases. In the event we have an emergency closure it will be communicated via the following methods: Parents will receive an automated call, text, and email; it will be posted on our website; and announced on local radio and television stations. KMVT has an app for school closures.

Our fall sports programs were very successful this year and have completed their seasons. Congratulations to the following for placing at the state tournaments: Volleyball placed 3rd at state and received the sportsmanship award; the girl's cross country was 2nd at the state tournament; the girl’s swim team are state champions and academic state champions; and the boy’s swim team are state champions and academic state champions. Congratulations to all of our student athletes in their success and for representing our community very honorably.

Thank you to all those that organized and participated in the annual PTSO/Kimberly School Benefit Dinner and Auction. Once again, due to the incredible support of our community, this event was extremely successful. All proceeds will benefit our students by assisting the PTSO in their quest to provide outdoor classrooms in the new and current elementary schools. The Kimberly School Foundation continues to support current and past Kimberly graduates with scholarships.

Speaking of the new elementary school…. we know there are many questions regarding boundaries, names, mascots, and colors. The transition committee which has tackled this task is organizing a couple events to share their work with the community and receive public input. First, on Saturday, November 11 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM there will be public tours of the new elementary located at 900 West Polk Street. Please feel free to stop in anytime during that time period to check out the new school, we would love to show you around! On Thursday, November 16 at 6:30 PM in the Middle School Commons the transition committee will host a public meeting to share their recommendations regarding boundaries, names, colors, and mascots. This will provide patrons an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to the committee. After the committee has received feedback from our community it will make its final recommendation to the Kimberly School Board of Trustees at the December 16 school board meeting.

We are relying more and more on electronic means to communicate with our patrons. Our website has a great amount of information and the elementary has turned to Facebook and Instagram to share information with patrons. Additionally, the Kimberly PTSO and Kimberly Youth Association (KYA) each have Facebook pages. This is a great resource to keep you updated. We encourage our community to take advantage of these modes of communication.

As always, the Kimberly School District appreciates the support of our wonderful community! Thanks for all you do for our children.

Sincerely,

Luke
