District Update | Kimberly

August 4, 2017

Dear Parents and Patrons of Kimberly School District,

I would like to welcome everyone back to another school year! The first day of school for students is Monday, August 28, 2017. Registration information is on the back side of this letter and can also be found on our website.

School will be starting soon and I ask everyone to pay special attention to pedestrians, bicyclists, runners, school zones, speed limits, cross walks, and children walking.  Please slow down and move over for bicyclists, pedestrians, runners, and farm equipment. While utilizing the crosswalk on Center Street, I notice at least half of the motorists are on their cell phone and most do not see me attempting to cross the street. Please put phones away and pay attention to your surroundings. Too many of our families have lost loved ones to these types of tragedies.

Our district has been able to replace parking lots, purchase new buses, update HVAC units, re-do gym floors, and replace furnishings with the outstanding support of our patrons and the passage of a Plant Facility Levy. The community also approved a new elementary school and the revitalization of the primary building. Construction of the new elementary is underway on Polk Street and the revitalization of the primary building is in the design phase.  We plan to have public tours of the new building and an update on the design of the primary building in early November.

A group of dedicated patrons have volunteered to be on the transition committee. This committee will make recommendations to the Board of Trustees on boundaries, names, colors, mascots, etc. of the elementary schools. In early November, along with the tour of the new elementary building, the transition committee will share their recommendations and seek public input prior to making a final recommendation to the school board. To assist the committee in the decision making we ask Kimberly patrons to take a short survey that is on the main page of our website.

The Kimberly School Board of Trustees would like to invite everyone to the Free to Community Varsity Football Game on Thursday, October 5 at 7:00 PM as we take on American Falls. Kimberly patrons will be admitted for free. This event is sponsored by Starr Corporation and Snake River Fire.

The Kimberly School District Transportation Department is in dire need of activities and substitute bus drivers. You don’t have to be experienced, we will train those that are interested. These part-time positions could be an excellent gig for a retiree! If you are interested in earning a little extra income and would like to give back to our community and school, please contact the district office for more information.

The personal safety and welfare of each child is of paramount concern to the Board of Trustees, employees, and patrons of the District. Policies and procedures are in place to deal appropriately with instances of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. We ask anyone that has reasonable cause that a student has been subject to harassment, intimidation, or bullying to report the incident to the administration immediately. For definitions and further information on the subject please refer to policies 3225, 3237, and 5235 on our website.

I would like to remind parents of their right to object to the release of directory information of their student. For further information please refer to School Board Policy 3570P on our website or by contacting the school or district office.

Best wishes for the 2017-18 school year,

Luke

Luke Schroeder, Superintendent
