Addressing the School BoardThe School Board encourages community members to express their views on district policy. Those wishing to speak to the Board should sign the public comment roster located in the foyer outside the Board Room between 6:30 and 7 p.m. on meeting days. To allow a greater number of people to speak, there is a five-minute time limit. When there is a large number of speakers to be heard, the Board may shorten the time. It is best to plan your presentation in advance, have copies of any written materials to distribute to the Board, and make your presentation as clear and concise as possible. The School Board considers public opinion when making future decisions, but will not necessarily take immediate action on concerns raised at a meeting. Sometimes the board will refer the matter to the administration for study or action. The Board receives citizen input with respect and expects those who address the Board to observe the same courtesy. Individuals who address personalities rather than issues will not be heard. General ConcernsEarly in each meeting, citizens who have signed the public comment roster will have the opportunity to address the Board on items of general concern. Since the Board is the policy-making body of the District, it is most appropriate to address general policies. Individual concerns are best solved closest to the situation. Parents are encouraged to contact the local school or department that can best handle a specific problem.Agenda ItemsIf you registered to speak prior to the meeting about a specific agenda item, the Board president will give you an opportunity at the beginning of the meeting or when that item of business is before the Board.
